Supreme Court of Georgia
The Supreme Court of Georgia is composed of seven Justices, including Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears and Presiding Justice Carol W. Hunstein, as well as Justices Robert Benham, George H. Carley, Hugh P. Thompson, P. Harris Hines and Harold D. Melton, and 67 employees. Related agencies include the Reporter of Decisions, the Office of Bar Admissions, the Judicial Qualifications Commission, the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism, the Georgia Courts Automation Commission, and the Office of Dispute Resolution. The State Bar of Georgia is also an arm of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice is the chairperson of the Judicial Council, a body composed of representatives of all five classes of courts. The Administrative Office of the Courts, which is administratively attached to the Supreme Court, staffs the Judicial Council.
Thus, the Supreme Court of Georgia serves parties with cases before it, members of the bar, judges and the public, by providing legal precedent, by regulating the practice of law, including the discipline of lawyers and judges, and by providing leadership of the Judicial Branch through the Judicial Council.
